New Problem With McAfee and Windows Mail

I have a XPS 410 that came with Vista and McAfee Security Center. I had no problems until yesterday. Now McAfee seems to be blocking outgoing mail in Windows Mail. I have no problem receiving mail and I can still send mail using Thunderbird, or I can turn off Email monitoring in McAfee temporarily to get the email to send in Windows Mail. I can understand if there was a problem from the start, but it has been working fine for two months. This is the message that I get:

The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'Test', Account: 'pop.west.cox.net', Server: 'smtp.west.cox.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

As I said, I just get this with outgoing mail and only in Windows Mail, and everything is fine if I disable the email scan, so obviously there is no problem with the connection. Any ideas what might be causing this?

    Hask:

You answered your own question. Emails scanners commonly cause this problem, and can safely be turned off. You are still protected, as Mcafee AV will still scan emails as they are written to disk.
