VNXe Performance

I have two questions.

First, can not you retrieve that from a VNXe?

I want to mesure the performance of the VNXe, especially Disk IOPS.

Second, cloud you please tell me how to use server_stats command?

I found the server_stats command,but i can't use server_stats command.

when i run server_stats command, i always get the follwoing error message.

root@spa:/usr>/nas/bin/server_stats

/nas/bin/server_stats: line 13: /usr/java/bin/java: No such file or directory

VNXe Version :MR4

    Hi,

As this point the VNXe GUI or CLI does not have the ability to show/retrive the DISK IOPS. However, there are commands to collect performance statistices which only support can collect/analyse.

The server_stats command is a Celerra/VNX command and is not a valid command on the VNXe. Also the only commands which customer can run from the CLI are the UECMCLI commands to manage the system and the service commands which support uses to collect information about the system and for basic troubleshooting. Type svc_help and you will see a list of this commands.

No Celerra/VNX commands can be run from the cli when logged in as service on the VNXe.

    Regards,

I don't seem to get any answers so i assume you are puzzled by my last question.

I will tell you quickly about the background info why I want to mesure performance for VNXe.

My client would like to make sure the VDI system works on VNXe all right. We are going to use Login VSI as well to put some pressure on it but at the moment we wont be able to know which IOPS etc. it is like we are making VSPEX VNXe bom together with our client, so this is very important to know.

I explained all this to emc and then they gave me root authority.

So i thought when you said that only support people can get performance figure with   'command , then I might able to get the data if I know the 'command' as well?

If here is not appropriate place to ask such question, please tell me where to ask about this.

    Thank you in advance.

    Hi,

The command used to collect the performance statistics is svc_perfcheck which can be run in as service. However, as i mentioned on my previous post the output of this command is a set of files which only EMC support can analyze using the internal tools. The end users cannot retrive any information from the generated files. So if you are looking for the disk iops utilization report, then you will have to log a ticket with the EMC support so that they collect this information analyze it and provide you the required informaton.

thank you but i wanted to know if you can run --ktrace more than 5minuts. and i understood that you cannot.

can you use cron to schedule scripts on VNXe, do you know perhaps?

Yes you will be able to run it by using the optional switches. Look at the syntex and examples.

    Usage: svc_perfcheck [ ]

      where are:
       --help[-h,-?]: Display this message
       --sar[-s]    : -i -n
       --ktrace[-k] : -i -n
       --getconfig[-g]
       --vaai[-v]

    Example: svc_perfcheck --sar -i 10 -n 15
    Example: svc_perfcheck --ktrace -i filename.trc -n 30
    Example: svc_perfcheck --getconfig

Yes you can just run that command in a while or a for loop when you are in the CLI. However I would not suggest trying to add that script as a cron job or try to schedule it using some built-in features. The OS on the VNXe is a Linux flavor, but is proprietary and any changes to it may cause SP panics or might cause SP not to come back to normal mode during a reboot.

Also be aware there that these commands will create files of large sizes and hence the disk space needs to be monitored continuously when running them. If the root filesystem (SSD) fills up then SP will panic.
