VSI problems

Hi

I have jsut installed VSI 5.3 and on a Vcenter Client

The Vcenter in running V5.0

The storage system is a VNXe 3300 running Oe 2.1.0.14097

The Vsi plugin is configured and I can se details of the datastores.

We use both ISCSI and NFS datastores.

When i go into Vsphere client under datastores and selvect the EMC VSI TAB and click on the Performance buttom, it says loading for about a minute and then shows me the NFS details. It never gives me the option to start monitoring...

I have looked through the Prerequisites for version 5.3 and all should be good.

I have another setup similar where it works like a charm, in that setup the Storage is a VNX 5300 but VNXe shold be supported.

Any ideas are appreciated.

It's by design. VSI doesn't support VNXe performance monitoring, so it's not listed as known issue in release notes.

Please refer to the product guide of Storage Viewer 5.3: Page 82(Storage Viewer provides the ability to view performance details for datastores and virtual disks that reside on EMC Symmetrix VMAX, Symmetrix VMAXe, and EMC VNX storage systems with statistics collection enabled.)

    Hi,

The performance monitoring tab for VNXe on VSI is not yet supported.

Please upgrade your VNXe to the recent version VNXe 2.3.1.19462 where we have introduced ASA and VAAI support for NFS datastores through VSI.

    Regards,

    Sri

    Hi Jim,

VNXe version 2.0.x and above is supported with EMC VSI(5.0 and above) but however we have seen issues with performance charts not populating and we have confirmed that VNXe does not support the "performance tab" on storage viewer(Even on ESXi5).

We have reported this to our dev team and we should be expecting performance tab issue addressed in the upcomming  VSI release.

    Regards,

    Sri

    Hi Sriky

This here is taken directly from the VSI for Vmware VSphere Storageviewer 5.2 Product guide Page 21.

    VNXe series storage systems

The Virtual Storage Integrator for VMware vSphere version 5.2 supports VNXe series storage systems with the following requirements:

    • Have minimum VNXe Operating Environment software version 2.0.3 installed.
    • NFS license is enabled (to view file-based storage).
    • iSCSI license is enabled (to view block storage).
    • Each ESX host that will access the iSCSI storage must be connected to the iSCSI target on the array.
    • Have minimum Unisphere CLI version 1.5 installed on the vSphere Client Host.

It wouold seem to me that the VNXe should be supported.

In the release notes for Version 5.3 there is a mention under known problems that Performance is not visible for NFS but only fro vSphere 4.1 we are running V5.0 So that should not be an issue here .

Maybe this should be reflected in the Release notes somewhere....

as it is a known issue...

The Product guide of version 5.3 is only on 2 pages...at least if you download it from support.emc.com

So I have a problem with viewing something on page 82...

And still the product guide for V5.2 says the VNXe is supported, if this has changed it should reflect that somewhere in the Release notes for version 5.3...
