5150 shutdown and change user problems

I just got a new Inspiron 5150 which runs great other than that it seems that about 50% of the time I try to shut down it freezes at the 'windows is shutting down" screen. The other 50% it shuts down it about 10-20secs. The same problem occurs while trying to log out of the user name I am currently on. It acts like it is working then it will just freeze, so it seems. The longest I left the shutdown screen on for was about 15min. Im not a computer wiz but im pretty sure it shouldnt take that long. Is there anything I can do to fix this problem? I thought jsut hitting the power button wasn't good for computers because you could lose information and in the long run possibly mess up the computer. Any tips or help is greatly appreciated~

Charles.

    Ezikiel,

Shutting down Windows XP using the power button causes no problems as it did with earlier operating systems. XP closes out all open files before it allows the system to power down.

It should not be necessary to use the power button, however. The best shutdown troubleshooter available for XP is here. Perhaps it can assist you in resolving the problem.
