Go into the Disk Management control panel. There is a button that let's you set/change a drive letter.

Thanks.  Will this keep the drive letter the same every time I connect my external hard drive.  My computer automatically assigns the letter "I" as my external hard drive.  When I disconnect and connect a different external device it also gives that device "I". 

i'm guessing if you connect a new drive, the computer will assign the

next available drive letter as "I".

if you connect the drive that 'you' had already assigned the "I" drive letter to,

it would maintain the "I" drive letter status and bump the newly connected drive to "J". 

try it - see what happens.

unless of course you assigned both drives the same drive letter at different

times.

 

the computer should automatically assign the next available

drive letter to any drive. if you assign a drive letter to the

drive, remove the drive, and then plug it back in, the computer

should remember the drive letter you assigned it.
