Computer Management
I am at least the third owner/operator of my Inspiron B130 with Windows XP/Professional. Coming from Windows 98SE, it is quite an improvement.
My problem is that I would like to delete the name of one or two previous owners from programs that still carry them, even if I installed them. I've tried to use Computer Management but ended up with a new background picture, missing icons, and unable to get to Computer Management from Control Panel. I have run System Restore and am back to square one.
Will I be safe, in Computer Management, "renaming" myself under Name in place of the previous owner? And entering my whole name under Full Name on the same line?
Also, in accordance with the recommendation not to sign on as Administrator for routine computer tasks, can I enter my name under Full Name with the word Adminstrator in the Name column, as well as a Power User on another line? And how do I make these options appear so that I can pick how I want to sign on?
Lastly, does the fact that I have entered Ownership Transfer information affect the original resgistry of this computer, or will the first owner's name always be tied to the registration?
I will be most grateful for any help I may receive with the above. OmaElke.

There is only one golden rule in this Forum “if it ain’t broke then don’t try to fix it” :emotion-41:
Windows XP has many Help & Support features to learn about “how to” :emotion-55:
Normally recommended that a “seller” first Clean Install Windows before transferring computer to “buyer”, thereby wiping relevant hard drive partition clean to ensure ALL personal data is deleted
If not done then buyer should consider doing a Windows Clean Install to ensure that no Malware has been installed (either by accident or otherwise)
Not recommended but some just create (for buyer) a new Admin account & delete All their previous accounts, files etc.. then defrag the hard drive in an attempt to hide previous installed/created personal data
Wouldn’t mess around in Computer Management, use Control Panel > User Accounts to add, change or remove any unwanted accounts
If you don’t want to sign on with your own created Admin account for routine tasks then just create a Limited user account & use that one
Previous owner(s) should have transferred ALL Dell OEM CDs & Owners Manual supplied with original Inspiron B130 purchase
Dell OEM CDs are very important if you ever need to fix computer problems or want to do a Clean Install
Your Inspiron B130 should have the Dell PC Restore (DSR) utility installed, & if it's still working??
Then DSR utility can be used as an alternative to doing a Clean Install to restore your computer system to original “out-of-box” purchased date condition, without need for using Dell OEM CDs

Using Dell Ownership Transfer is mainly associated with security in proof of ownership & related to any ongoing Dell technical support
