I'm running that same Windows 11 build on my XPS 8930, and Dell Update works fine. The version installed is 4.2.1.

I just ran it for the first time in a while and it reports 4 updates. Noting that it says there's also an update for Dell Update (screenshot).

What version of Dell Update are you running?

Windows 11 preview isn't supported by Dell but the release version of 11 will be.

Luke 717 : thanks for the info. Have tried to re-install Dell Update v 4.3.0 but gets to half way thru setup and can't complete. Says Dell Client Management Service won't start. Tried to start it manually in services.msc but no joy.

@adamgosp, a new build 22000.132 of Windows 11 preview was released a couple of days ago. Just to check if your issue is Win 11 or not - update to this version and then see what happens with Dell software. If all works, then it was a Win 11 preview issue. If it's still there, well, it wasn't that!

Maybe someone with more knowledge of Dell software and troubleshooting can chip in here... 

I had a similar issue, Windows 11, "Dell Update" just hung while trying to load.

The service "Dell Client Management Service" was not started.

Using "services.msc" to start the service, it failed to start, and it said to use "sxstrace" to debug.

The issue was a something wrong with this file: C:\Program Files (x86)\Dell\UpdateService\ServiceShell.exe.Config

I just renamed that file (to ".old"), started the service successfully, then ran "Dell Update" successfully.

Yes I had exactly that issue as well.  Searched and I didn't even have a service called Dell Client Management Service.

In my case I uninstalled, then downloaded and reinstalled and it's all working again now.

Odd but a simple fix really.  This is on an R10/Windows 11 public release - no a pre release beta etc.

Same here with Alienware 15 R4, I hit "repair" on the control panel's software list and it worked

I don't know how to put the .old

To put the .old extension just right click on the file and choose rename. Then delete the extension to the right of the dot ( . ) and type in old. Then accept the change.

How would the full extension look? I'm a lay user.

I tried on my XPS 17 and it didn't work.

I tried renaming ''ServiceShell.exe.Config'' into ''ServiceShell.exe.old'' and into ''ServiceShell.old''. Both didn't work. I restared every time after rename.
