HELP Pleeeze Intermitant, Irritating Problem.

Inspiron 6400 - when logging on, initially started to have white horizontal lines on botton 1/2 of screen - WHY -
Also when been on either a short while or long, every so often get a blank black screen for about 2 secs, then goes back to normal, this is happening more often, what causes this?
Have not changed settings only downloaded 2 sites which I use regularly.
Never had any problems with other laptop only Dell.

A driver issue would be the first thing to investigate. Do you have the latest available driver from Dell?

Being a typical blonde and not very up on technical things, how does the 'driver' alter the problem and why would this problem occur.
    Patience please. poppy

Drivers are available here. Look under Video.

The driver is what controls how your video adapter interacts with your screen display. New drivers are released from time to time which correct known problems and help to improve performance.

I'm not saying that the driver IS the problem in your case. What I am saying is that installing an updated driver MAY eliminate your problem. If it does not, then it may be a hardware problem but at least you have eliminated an outdated or corrupt driver as the problem.
