Installing a Windows XP patch

I re installed IE 6.0 last night. But the numbers on my "About Internet Explorer" link under "Help" do not match the numbers that the help site says should be there. At one time, i tried installing SP2, but it never worked after many attempts. Yet, in my "About Internet Explorer" info page, it indicates xpsp2. Thanks for everything!

That happens often when SP2 install doesn't install properly; you end up with some SP2 files along with the majority of SP1 files. A system Restore to a date before the first attempted install of SP2 doesn't sound feasible. If you don't want to attempt another SP2 install then you would have to detect which file(s) are causing IE to think it is the SP2 version (6.2 ?). Then replace them with the SP1 version of those files. If that hypothesis is correct the files that need to be replaced would be found in a google search.

PS I see that Denny already answered your question.

Maxd, So why do you think that a restoring to my computer to a points before all these problems is not feasible? No other solution is feasible either. The only other thing i can do next is call my ISP. they have alread informed me that SP2 does not work with their connection. At any rate, I have tried at least 10 times to install Sp2 and it never completes.

I think the restore point thing might work. or i could allow you access to the site, which I dont think i really should do. Thanks.

I wouldn't suggest giving anyone the passwords to a secure site that has your info on it. That said you're welcome to send me the site but I can't take any responsibility for anything malicious that may occur.

Try the System Restore to before you started messing with SP2; good chance it won't work.
