Non-genuine Win 7 64 Ultimate Vostro 430
All of a sudden (after a Windows Update) my Vostro (warranty expired) is reporting that it doesn't have a Genuine copy of Windows. MS says that "it's not unusual for an update Dell (OEM) is blocking a reactivation by holding the key. Here is what MS tech says when asked "What do I tell Dell?"; You may tell them that you need to have a key that you may use to reactivate your device since upon reviewing the ID in our end it's blocked."
Subsequently, another tech wrote: "When issues appear after a Windows update is installed it's due the system's inability to adapt with the current update. As I've mentioned earlier, the conventional way to fix this issue is to provide a product key and reactivate.
In your case though, you do not have the product key with you and it being an oem license disables it from reactivating."
MS wants $99 to fix it. Help anyone? How do I get the key from Dell so I can fix this? It shouldn't be MY problem!
