Nortons restore?

Hello. I recently downloaded winamp to play audio on an online radio site. I later found out that musicmatch runs this very nicely, so I removed the winamp software through its uninstall program, and to make sure I had gotten rid of any file associations, I decided to restore to a point 3 days ago where I had just updated my virus scan. When I did this, it ran to completeion (as far as the progress bar was concerned), but got hung up at the very end. I had no option but to hit the cancel button. This led me to a rebooot to a blank screen. Aftar ebooting with F11 and Ctrl, I was able to again run nortons restore (in recovery mode). The first two attempts (I tried 3 day ago again, then 7days ago) progressed to completeion, but only rebooted me to blank screen again.) The third try was for 30 days ago, and it ran to completion, and worked this time,...which is why I am here now. But after windows logo, it did some kind of file check thingy, and one of the firsat things it said was that my "volume is dirty"....Soooo,..what does that mean?...volume is "dirty", what do you think went wrong? will this happen again?????

All I know is I have a looooooong virus scan update ahead of me now. Think I`ll try it in a coupla hours, and then go to sleep while it updates.
