remove programs from Windows XP

unable to remove certain programs from windows xp including itunes (I keep getting message that some files are missing and must reinstall itunes so I am trying to remove itunes from program list) and Quicktime (I am unable to use Quicktime and when I click on icon I get error message #63443-failed to initialize- so I am trying to remove it as well).  Both these programs cannot be removed from my program lists.  I go to Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, and then try to remove by clicking on Change/Remove but InstallShield Wizard runs halfway and then terminates with no action occurring.  Is this a virus or am I doing something wrong?  What can I do to fix this?  Thanks for any help.

Well, if you haven't done anything that would be missed, try using System Restore to reset your XP to a time when you knew everything worked.  That's kinda the "use a sledgehammer to pound in a nail" approach, though.  Then you could try uninstalling your problematic applications.  System Restore can be found at Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore.

Do you have an antivirus solution installed? And if so, is it up-to-date?  If you don't have an AV installed, try using the Malicious Software Removal Tool, available at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads.  It may or may not help.

Of course, if you do have a virus or Trojan and it's been running awhile, your registry might be corrupt.  In which case, good luck...:robotvery-happy:

If a program gets corrupted or missing some of the uninstall items, reinstallation of the program, over top of the existing corrupted version and then uninstall will usually work.

Even tho they are both Apple programs, I've seen several posts on this forum about corrupted Quicktime because of iTunes software.
