I have tried to install other programs and all I get is an error saying it can not start the installer or the installer is having a problem accessing. I need some help....
Do I need to install windows XP over the existing XP?
Do I need to reformat the drive and then reinstall XP?
I have had more problems with this Dell than any other computer that I have owned. I was a Gateway customer but I thought I would try out a Dell, that was my first mistake.
But since I do have a dell I need help in getting things back to working status....Thanks to anyone who can help....
You might try a system file checker. This will check the files on your OS and replace any corrupt ones.
To run System File Checker
Click on Start then Run. In the Run box, type
sfc /scannow and then
OK.
Note: space between c and /
You may be asked for your Windows CD, if asked insert it
I hope somebody has some thoughts on this. I'm having the same problem with the Windows Installer box constantly popping up on my 8400. It doesn't say it's installing anything in particular, just pops up and flashes a few times and then goes away.
How do get rid of it without disabling some of programs that use the installer?
If you have the system disk, you could try a repair.
Insert disk and restart your computer.
Boot from cd
choose install
do the agreement
choose repair.
It will repair your system, without losing any files and folders.
Follow the instructions.
You'll need to get your drivers disk out and install all the items from it.
Desktop System Software or Notebook System Software
Chipset or SMBus driver
Processor Driver (if applicable)
Video
Audio (sound)
Input Drivers (keyboard/mouse)
Modem
Network Card
