Windows "Stop Error"

I read from the Help menu that if you use the "Make Compatible" option after copying data to a CD it will make the CD (or DVD) readable by a wider range of programs.

I created a CD with data.  I selected "Make Compatible"  After about 8 or 10 seconds the screen went blue and a message read that Windows shut down to prevent damage of some sort.  A timer was running.  It timed out before I could comprehend what was going on.  The machine rebooted.  Now I have back-up files of drawings I had open and I need to go thru them to see if my most recent work has been saved.  A pain.  The only new thing I had done was to try the "Make Compatible" feature

I made another CD, turned everything else off.  Tried the Make Compatible and again the system crashed after several seconds.  After rebooting it comes up with messages from MS suggesting I use Dell Driver Recovery program.

Any clue what driver might be involved in the Make Compatible feature?
