Aurora R8, no video, #2

Hi

I have had my aurora for a few years now with no isues. The only recent change I can think of is that I used support assist for some updates including a BIOS update, but this was all completed a couple of days ago and no problems noticed until now.

Today i've just gone to use the PC, it turns on as normal with normal lights & it all sounds normal but i'm getting no video on the monitor. The monitor itself is definitely receiving power and I can interact with the menu on the monitor using the buttons on the back of the monitor with no issue so the screen itself is working, if I go to the 'input' section it says no DP input detected.

I haven't unplugged the DP cable in months but have tried unplugging both ends and plugging back in. I tried moving the DP plug into the main connection area (motherboard?? forgive my lack of knowledge on terminology!) and back to the graphics card again. Nothing is working...

I plan to try my a laptop using a HDMI cable to my monitor to check that works, and have ordered another DP cable from amazon that should come tomorrow to check if it's the cable at fault. Any other ideas on what I can try or what the problem is likely to be?

I've seen Dell offer remote software support (no fix no fee) as well as an option to send the PC in for hardware diagnositcs - any way of knowing if this is hardware or software before I go down those routes?

Thank you for any help!

My Aurora also blackscreened and got stuck this morning and it was caused by Microsoft windows update automatically pushing out this Nvidia game ready driver (Nvidia 456.71) for my GPU.  Restarting fixed mine though.

The motherboard displayport connection is supposed to be disabled when a GPU is plugged into the slot. Are you able (comfortable) removing the GPU from your PC, and then seeing if you're able to get display by plugging the displayport cable directly into the PC when no GPU is installed.  Don't forget to discharge flea power after unplugging the PC and before touching anything, if you do.

If you are able to get video that way, check to see if you can identify the source.  If your issue is also related to a GPU driver update, check what driver you have for the GPU.  Options may include wiping and reinstalling an earlier version, rolling back, or uninstalling and letting windows install on reboot.

    Hi

The alienware logo/power button is now flashing yellow. I had a look at the manual online and it seems to be doing the "3,7" pattern which apparently means "BIOS recovery image found but invalid".

What would you suggest at this stage?

I'm happy to remove the graphics card if needed though not sure if that will help if it is a BIOS issue?

    Thanks

Just turned the PC on again and the light is no longer flashing - just to let you know.

First, I'd suggest clearing CMOS.  You will likely need to remove the GPU to reach the cr2032 batery, so try leaving it out for the first boot after clearing cmos.  Remember to discharge flea power and unplug the PC before opening it up.

    Hi

I have also been dealing with dell via PM who suggested re-installing windows through the boot menu.

When in the boot menu I saw an option to run diagnostics and did that first, it found no problems. When exiting the diagnostics it made me reboot and on rebooting it loaded windows fine and everything now seems back to normal?? Not really sure what happened but getting into that boot menu seems to have fixed it, for now anyway!

Thanks for your input though i'm somewhat glad I didn't have to start opening up the PC
