I have the m15 4K OLED, which supports HDR However, Win 10 only identifies the display as supporting HDR with no WCG support. HWINFO indicates the panel is a Samsung 10-bit panel, which, in theory, should support WCG. Any ideas?
Typically HDR implies support for the HDR10 standard, which includes WCG support, but WCG does not imply HDR. That said, laptop displays and even the vast majority of desktop displays that support HDR don’t display it especially well because they simply can’t get bright enough.
I have not seen any spec that shows the brightness.
And you probably won’t, which isn’t a good sign, although in fairness very few laptop manufacturers ever provide that spec. VESA has defined a few DisplayHDR standards for brightness, and some displays conform to those, but very few conform to the current top end DisplayHDR 1000 spec. And even that isn’t especially high compared to what high-end HDR TVs are able to produce. But I’m sure reviews have already tested this stuff, or will be shortly if the OLED panel is still too new to have detailed reviews available.
