m17 R4, Laptop Screen Replacement Questions

So I need to fix an Alienware m17 R4 with severely damaged screen and upper half.

I found that there was no replacement for m17 R4 screen on the market since the model is pretty new. Will it work if I replace the entire upper half of m17 R4 with the entire upper half of m17 R2 or R3? Will the ports and size match? Thanks for your help!

    rogersong,

I am confused as to why the DELL-Cares agents never received the m17 R4 service tag from you via their Private Message?

For an in warranty Laptop, the only reason that Dell would not replace a broken LCD is in the case of "customer caused damage".

The only exception to the above "customer caused damage" would be if you purchased the "additional" Accidental Damage warranty =

Hi @rogersong searched for but did not find Dell Alienware m17 R4 Replacement Screen. There will be a Dell part number (DP/N) white label on the back of the screen panel. This DP/N screen panel is probably used on other laptops, if only its specification was known. Did you look at your Dell system configuration How to Check the System Configuration on Your Dell System | Dell US to see if this DP/N or other screen panel information is included?

I need the m17 r4 white. Do you know if they also sell the upper half together with the screen?

When did you purchase the laptop because I think dell will give you a screen replacement if the warranty is still available or just give you a brand new one.

Also while I did my search all over the internet I only found the display replacement and not the rear cover.

Quick Tip: If your laptop has voltage / charging issues, try shutting it down, unplugging power from laptop, hold power button down for 30 seconds to do a full reset!

So are you talking about the 17 r4 which the display is here:https://www.parts-people.com/index.php?action=category&id=151&subid=905&refine=lcd+screen

or if you need the m17 r4 screen is it white? Because they’re two different models like the older m17x r4 or just the m17 r4. Here’s a screen https://www.laptopscreen.com/English/model/Dell/ALIENWARE%20M17%20R4/

I think this reply is about the older series 17 R4, not m17 R4 with the 10th gen intel CPU, so not what I was looking for.

The laptop only has the basic warranty. I guess the screen and chassis replacement will not be included. That's also why I want to know whether the older model will be compatible with it. If they do, I can just purchase those and replace it myself

Hi @rogersong thank you for sharing update.

The first 30 days Approval duration has user option to request new replacement system or full refund. The first year basic Dell Warranty should cover this fault. Your Dell invoice will say what your purchase included. There is only one way to find out, use your online Dell account to ask Dell Support to create a Service Request for you, so that Dell knows that there is a problem to fix. Dell Refund policy, New vs Refurbished

Well basically it’s not compatible with anything below an r2 because they didn’t have simple display. The r3 seems most compatible.
