Dell 3910 BIOS update disaster
I was given the option of installing 1.6.1 last and I now have a serious case of upgrades regret.
The desktop now BSOD’s on boot with an “inaccessible boot device” that boot loops if the machine is left alone. I downloaded the only version of a BIOS recovery that I saw on Dell’s support page, but the file isn’t detected when I go into the proper BIOS update screen. The log file option in the BIOS shows the 1.6.1 install timeline and clearly shows the BIOS upgrade as being corrupted
The SSD is working as I can browse its contents in the OS Recovery tool and copy the files to a USB key.
There’s a recovery BIOS on DELL’s website. I copied it to a flash drive, but BIOS’s flash utility doesn’t recognize the file exists.
Tech support says to reimagine the machine. No issues doing that (haven’t tried it yet), but I’m convinced that unless I can rollback to a known-good BIOS, I’m out of luck. A reinstall will simply BSOD when the machine reboots.
Any suggestions?
