Alienware M17x R4 Issue

I currently have an Alienware M17x R4 and I'm having issues with the battery / charging.

When the laptop is plugged in at first it is fine and charges normally and the alien power key changes colour appropriately. Eventually thought it just stops working, the laptop recognises its plugged in because the power key light changes colour when it's plugged in, however the battery bar in the toolbar indicates that it isn't charging and the battery runs flat. The only way to prevent this is to restart the laptop without it being plugged in then plug it in again and it will begin to charge again, however after minutes/hours it will randomly stop working again and have to be restarted again.

It's honestly really frustrating when I'm trying to do work or play a video game and I have to restart multiple times just so the battery will charge itself, so any help or advice would be welcomed.

    Hi!

    Please follow these steps:

    • Do a power drain (turn the system off, disconnect AC adapter and battery, press and hold the power button for 30 seconds, reconnect and turn on)
    • Check if the AC adapter light flickers or fades out with plugged in to the laptop.
    • Access the BIOS and check if the AC adapter type says unknown.

Let me know how it goes!

Before the power drain it was saying 180W and after it also says 180W. The light on the AC adapter seems to be remaining green too.
Another issue I forgot to mention in the first post is that when the laptop is unplugged if I move with it sometimes it will randomly just shut off completely, for example if I re-adjust the position of the screen or I just move the position of the laptop in general. I'm assuming it's something to do with the battery but i'm not exactly sure.

Try running a battery test using AlienAutopsy.

Make sure you have the latest BIOS A12 for Windows 7 and Windows 8, or BIOS A13 for Windows 8.1.

If issue persists, send me a private message with your Service Tag and contact information so I can assist you further.
