AMD vs NVIDIA

Question

Trying to buy an Alienware desktop as a gift. Do I go with the AMD Radeon R9 270 with 2GB GDDR5 or the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760Ti with 2GB GDDR5 ? My son gets a lot of games on Steam.  I'm from a completely different era and need some help. Lol

They are about even in terms of performance. The R9 270 does have a few higher specs, but due to better driver development the 760ti edges in front in most in game min/max FPS most importantly of those is in the minimum frame rate (lower minimum frame rates are more noticeable while playing games). Of the two I'd suggest the 760ti, better minimum frames in modern games, also lower TDP (power draw).
