M17x R2 randomly ejecting all peripherals
At first I thought my cat had sat on the cables and accidentally disconnected one of my USB hubs but this has been getting worse and worse over the last few days and it happens to absolutely anything connected to any of the 4 USB ports. It's becoming a nightmare because open files on my backup drives are getting damaged. It now happens at least once every 3 hours ...even if nobody is in front of the computer!
Has anyone ever experienced this and if so do you have any clues what may be causing it please?

Perhaps I didn't clarify the situation well enough. The cables are not being pulled out. The PC is ejecting the peripherals and not just the hard drives and pen drives. It also ejects my mouse and cooling pad. Every single peripheral connected to any of the M17's 4 USB ports get ejected all at the same time at random intervals. This morning it has only happened once but yesterday it did it 5 times!
Ahh..ok. So you mean it is ejecting like when you go to the Safely Remove Hardware button? I never heard of that one but you would think it has to be something with the OS. I would try a reinstall if it was me. Have you tried that yet? I'v heard of something like a HDD getting ejected over and over but not everything. The everything has me stumped.
Read this thread and see if this sounds like what is going on with you. The last post said the workaround is using a USB hubhttp://en.community.dell.com/owners-club/alienware/f/3746/p/19451350/20115470.aspx

Power settings are on maximum but no, I have not tried uninstalling all USB drivers. If I do that and then restart, will Windows automatically reinstall them?
BTW, all external drives and the 2 hubs are independently powered. The only item that isn't is my mouse.

Have you tried going into device manager and uninstalling all the USB drivers and then restarting the machine? Also make sure that the power settings are set to maximum performance :)

The problem they encountered always seems to be related to the M17x R4 and in particular, WD USB 3.0 external drives. My 4 ports are all USB 2.0.
1 has a 4 port hub attached to it,
1 has a 7 port hub " " "
1 has a mouse " " " "
1 has a cooling pad " " "One thing I hadn't mentioned is that I also have 2 USB 3.0 ports on a PCI express card. They are not being used but perhaps the card or its driver may be causing this? I'm going to uninstall its driver and remove it just to see if it makes any difference.

The problem turned out to be a faulty USB cable. Since replacing it no peripherals have been ejected without my input. Thanks to everyone that came to my aid, I truly appreciate it.

I have never seen a USB cable unplug on it's own. My guess is something like your cat is doing it because what are the odds that all 4 usb ports or different USB cables are bad and doing this? Plus USB ports are pretty snug.
Something or someone is pulling them out, has to be that or ghosts...
