Beep codes
Hi,
I have a Dimension 3100 and on boot up it emits the beep codes as follows, 1 1 3 1.
Looked into the beep codes and it mentions checking the RAM.
I removed one modul and it now emits two short beeps and the Bios beep codes advises this to be a RAM issue.

When you change the amount of memory or move the memory modules, you may cause memory beep errors during the Power-On Self-Test (POST). This may occur if you do not remove the power cord from back of the computer while adding or removing memory modules. As far as I know the RAM modules have not been changed.

It appears Kingston RAM has been installed in the Dimension 9100, 1 x 1GB 2x 512MB modules and Nanya RAM in the 3100 2 x 256MB modules.
Is there any other type of RAM that is ok to run in Dell's and does this Nanya brand standard in the 3100?
2 x 256MB PC2-4200U-444-12-C1.Thanks.

Not all memory brands are compatible with Dell's. If you installed incompatible memory or exceeded the memory size you will have memory problems.
Check www.crucial.com for memory. Crucial memory is guaranteed to work in Dell's.
