Booting Linux : error after LILO
Hi everybody,
I'm trying to set up Mandrake9 or 10.1 on an Optiplex GX260. Well, works not that bad for a newbie!
Something is disturbing : after LILO, I always have an "non fatal" error saying:
PCI: Device 00:1F.1 Not available because of resource collision
It doesn't freeze, the launching goes on quite immediately, the boot goes on, login is OK,I have sound, video and so on. I cannot find which device is unavailable.
Does anyone know or is there a way to find out what this is? Maybe there's already a post about it?
Does it come from the BIOS?
Thanks.
Richard.

For this issue, I haven't found any installation switch to see what was happening. But I went inside the control panel, device manager and found it in the details :
(E)IDE/ATA Storage Controller 82801BD 845 G/GL Chipset IDE Controller
position 0:1f:1
module : unknownI've seen a post mentioning a kind of patch you can apply for some disks and/or IDE drive issues but unfortunately thought it wasn't for me, so I didn't note the site's address of the stuff. It looked like "i810" or "i748" (or "e780"?).Has anyone ever heard of it?
Should I modify any configuration? (remember the first message at boot "..unavailable because of resource collision")Thanks for any idea.Richard.disaster manage1

unfortunately, the proprietory bioses never have enough switches, but your OS knows better; It indicates a conflict (or resource colision) on your primary chanel at 1Fh slave device most likely caused by a read timeout..What you want, is to determine which is what (fast or slow, harddrive or CDrom) and see, if there is a way, to insert\remove a waitstate, change the boot-order in the SETUP, re check your jumpers and cable conections, put each device on it's own chanel or even replace some components. You are doing great for a novice and I'm confident that you shall figure it out.Regarding patches for "some disks", I thought it was for the large buffer large drives that take too long to finish before the OS shuts down. Your problem indicates ADE/ATAPI too slow to start rather, even just trying to boot from a CDrom trying to install the Mandrake!
