I did a search on google for your problem, came up with other posts with the same problem but no real resolvement.
One suggestion was to make sure you have the latest Direct X from Microsoft (V9c). You can check your version by clicking Start/Run enter "dxdiag" and then OK. The Direct X diagnostic will come up and it will show what version you have.
Another suggestion was that an incompatible format. e.g. if the remote station is set up for RealAudio or QuickTime and you were trying to play it on Windows Media Player it would be incompatible.
Do a search, using google, for Cannot create DirectShow player and see if you find anything that applies to you.

Self-built desktop for recording studio application
I had the same problem. I had to role back my windows media player to an older version (9) As soon as I installed 10 is when I began to get that error - go back a version and you should be good to go.....Atleast thats what worked for me...
