Have you tried to talk to Dell tech support. I know that they wont support other items they didn't sell but maybe there is something else going on. You need to check all the devices in the device manage and insure that they are all listed as working correctly and they have no conflicts.I had a heck of a time with my sound card and my modem and my USB 2.0 card. I had them every way you can think of. Sometimes the machine would lock up and I had to try another combination. One guy hinted at the fact that my sound card was not PCI compliant. I'm not sure what that meant but I was able to work thru it.

 

I seem to remember it locking up when I was sharing the IRQ without any conflicts with the video card. Just food for thought.

When you installed the scanner card did the system detect the new hardware and try/ask to install the drivers. I guess from your post you were using the scanner. Then you installed the firewire. At this point did you also have to install the drivers for the new firewire port/hardware. If not you need to insure that all the hardware has been installed properly.

You should be able to go to the device manager and determine if there is a conflict and/or if the hardware is set up and installed correctly.

The PCI card and scanner was detected and worked fine.

The IRQ for the IEEE card is "19".

The funny part of this problem is that when both PCI cards are installed just the

scanner works, not the firewire card!

But the Texas Instruments IEEE 1394 card is still listed (so the computer sees what is in the slot).

Hello-You can look in your Device Manager to see which driver is being used by your firewire card. If it looks like it is a TI driver, go to it and disable it. I do this by changing the file extention to " .xxx". That way, if something goes wrong, you can change it back to what it was. Then, have the computer search for a new driver. If the MS driver is there(it comes with XP), the MS operating system usually finds it.

Hello-In some situations, the Texas Instruments firewire card drivers can conflict with the default Microsoft card drivers. Removing the TI drivers, usually installed with the new card, and allowing the Windows IEEE 1394 drivers to run the show usually takes care of the problem.
