E510 Audio Problem
Hello all. I have a dell e510 which i recently formatted the hard drive and reinstalled windows. Everything is working nicely until i plugged my speakers (their the default speakers) and no sound. Obviously i went to the dell site and tried to update the audio driver (its a sigmatel) and it says it doesnt work on this computer. Clearly it should as this machine hasn't been changed out of the box, besides a ram upgrade. It runs windows xp home edition. Ive tried upgrading bios and chipsets all to no avail ie either they dont install or they do install and dont help the main problem of the sound not working/driver not installing. Volume control says theirs no active mixer device. Device management comes up with audio codecs, legacy audio drivers, legacy video capture devices, media control devices, and video codecs that either cannot be updated or are irrleated to problem. Sound and Audio Device Properties says, in the first tab, no audio device and, under the audio tab, no playback/midi devices. This has taken me all day to try and fix this and a computer isnt much without sound. Please help as I resent giving dell another 50+ dollars for what seems to be a easy fix.
