Loosing system resources
Hello everyone, since I'm not really sure what forum to put this in so I'll put it here. I'll try to get my point across without being to long winded, so here goes. Ok my system is a 4100 933mhz 384 ram Win me. I've noticed here lately that while being online, say E bay for a half hour or so and at the same time have music match going, my resources go to nothing and I get the message that I'm out of resources. But it only happens with Netscape, Internet explorer doesn't seem to bother. Any ideas? And also, I mostly use Netscape cause something in Internet explorer causes it to slow way down while using it, I'm talking to the point of spinning the mouse wheel twice and taking a minute for it to respond, but Netscape doesn't have that problem. Once again any ideas? Thanks.
You can try freeing up system resources.
1. Click Start
2. Click Run
3. Type MSCONFIG
4. Click the Startup Tab and uncheck any unnecessary startup item. Refer to this link for the full list

Good advice above. I'd also be concerned about spyware programs stealing your resources. Go to www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/ and download ad-aware. Install it, run it and dump all the evil stuff it finds. If you've never done this, you could have hundreds of these pernicious programs slowing you down. I seem to collect a dozen or so new spyware programs each time I go online.
If you haven't done it recently, it'll also be worthwhile to clean up your hard drive by deleting all .tmp files (C:\Windows\temp) and other files you no longer use, uninstall all programs you no longer use and then run scandisk and the disk defragger program. You can find these under Start/Programs/Accessories/System tools.
All this stuff is basic maintenance that I perform a couple times per month. It doesn't cost anything, takes little time and can make a huge difference in how well your PC performs.

- Hey lots of good advice thanks. Yeh I've been through the start menu and eliminated everything that doesn't need to run on startup and just last night got the program ad aware and removed a lot of garbage. But it seems that Netscape is still not letting loose of resources, just using it and having music match going it takes about 30 minutes and the low resource message appears, Internet Explorer doesn't have that problem.

Some process that you are running is not releasing resources. I only used ME for a short time. I believe you have to try a process of elimination and try to determine which one is the problem. Look for something new you installed or updated around when your problem started.
XP doesn't have this type of problem since it doesn't allocate resources like ME. I upgraded my first machine from ME to XP and everyone since then came with XP. With your memory and processing speed your machine could easily handle XP if you were interested.
