new pc - which one?

Hi all, I'm new here. I currently have a Dimension 4300 (about 6/7 years old)and have been very pleased with it but think now is the time to buy a new pc as memory on this is full. Trouble is I have no idea which Dell model to buy. I keep a lot of photos on my pc and have recently bought an ipod so will be downloading music. I do not play games. I use Fireworks 3 for work on my pix and ideally the new pc needs to be compatible. I would like to have a separate hard drive to back up my pictures and important data. I am prepared to spend up to £1,000. Any suggestions for pc and separate hard drive would be much appreciated.

I would spec out a nice XPS 420.

any dell will be able to do that. even the cheapest one. usb or firewire is fine for ext hard drives. i believe you can even buy a ext hard drive with the computer as a accessory

XPS 420, it has a nice eSATA connection in the back for external harddrives.

Many thanks for your advice. Can you recommend a separate hard drive to go with the XPS 420?
