power supply upgrade

Hey everybody I have a dell insipron 537s. as everybody knows the power supply is only 250w. I would like to upgrade it to a 450-550w the only problem is if it is safe to do it and if it is do you have in suggestion for a power supply to install in it. thanks

 Specs:

Intel Core 2 Duo E7500 (2.93GHz, 3MB)

2GB DDR2 SDRAM 800MHZ

Integrated IntelGMA x4500 Graphics

With 537s, the power supply upgrade is limited, due to the constraints of the slimline case, the only unit that would fit is a 300w TFX power supply, that is hardly worth the cost of upgrading from the default 250w, plus you need a power supply with 4 SATA ,1 24-pin, or 20+4-pin, 1 P2, 4-pin

so if I were to buy a Hercules 500W ATX 20/24 pin W/Sata Power Supply it wouldn't fit because I don't mind moddifying me case.  I know was the SATA is but the 4 SATA is that 4 plugs or pins?

The power supply needs to have four SATA power connectors.

To be honest, I don't know how you can modify the slimline case, to accept an ATX power supply, unless you hack a hole in the side of the case and this is not a very satisfactory solution.

Personally I would try to buy either a Dell 535/545/546/537 Mini Tower case and transfer all the parts into it, this would allow you use an ATX PSU and a full size PCI Express x16 video card, because the 'Slimline' models can only accept low profile cards.

hhm thanks man I understand...I have a old dell tower i'm going to see if it fits in. if it does i'll buy a power supply with 4 sata connectors the works. I know the video card will fit because i have a gforce 7 series in it that fits like a charm.

    Hi, There.

Thank you for the comments, but I've kinda stopped worrying about it, a long time ago.      :emotion-1:

I'm not following you around the forums Bev - honest... but that's another one who obviously never noticed your gender, despite the three rather obvious indications (real name, username, and avatar)...

    ... thanks man...

I'll stop doing this now though, 'coz it's obviously just some people's way of saying thank you to everybody - whatever their gender, rather than them assuming all forum members are blokes :emotion-2:
