Printer causing problems with other hardware using USB port

I have a Dell Dimension 4600 Series. Recently I added a Dell 926 printer.

Now I have bought a Logitech 3500 webcam and had trouble getting it to

operate. Finally I found that if I disconnected the printer it worked OK.

In retrospect it was about the time that I fitted the printer that my ipod

started being rejected intermittently by the computer.

Presume its a lack of power problem but why?

    Hello,

USB issues are a very common problem. Each USB port can deliever a maximum of .5 amps to a device before it will cause problems or deliver an error message. When too many usb devices are on at one time conflicts and problems can develop. The resolutions that I have found are as follows:

    1. Unplug any USB device at the time you are using the other giving trouble, as you have done here.

    2. Get a "powered" USB hub, one that requires an external power supply and plug a couple of your devices onto that.

    3. Rearrange the devices on the USB ports untill everything works. I know this sounds strange, but I have found that some USB ports do not place nice with certain devices. I do not know why, it just is. Case in point, I have a USB jump drive that will work in only one port, and doesn't work on some computers at all.

    4. too many USB devices plugged in at once can cause boot problems. Be aware of this for future use.

    Hope this helps.
