XPS720 BLACK Ordered

Here is a great story of customer support!  I had decided to purchase an XPS720 (NOT the H2C), but wanted to purchase it through the Military Exchange Dell Store (to save the tax).  The problem was that the Exchange Dell Store didn't offer the XPS720 only the XPS720 H2C.  So, I sent an e-mail to them asking them if they knew whether or not they would be offering the XPS720 in the near future.

The Exchange customer service rep checked with her Dell contact and they agreed to offer the XPS720 on their site on July 30th (today).  Then (here's the amazing part), the exchange rep e-mailed me back and asked if I wanted the "red" or "black" because Dell told her they would only offer one.  My reply was that I really wanted the black but didn't really think it would be available since it isn't even on the Dell site.  However, if they only thing they could offer was the red one, I still wanted it.  All those e-mails transpired this morning.  Not 2 hours later, the Military Exchange Dell Store was offering the XPS 720 Black.

I am a happy camper.  I guess my only concern is that I don't have an estimated ship date yet (hopefully later today once the order is transmitted to Dell) they will end up telling me that the black case won't be available for two months.  Actually, if that happens, I will cancel and buy the red one.

There are no "black" XPS 720's.  Only the H2C is all black.  Unless they build one specially for you.  This I doubt, but if you can swing it, get it.

I believe he is saying it is a silver XPS720 with the black bezel(Tphillips beat me to this point).  There is no reason Dell cannot build these.  They have all of the parts and they are currently using them.  If they truly listened to you to pick between red or black, that is awesome.  You have almost as much consumer power as GB.  I hope you get it in black.

He means black as in the regular non H2C units with black plastic fronts ans rears who knows what the side colors will be until his arrives or they start that config for sell on the regular Dell sales pages.

    It will happen eventually.

I don't really think that any of us have any consumer power any longer. :smileyindifferent:

Yes, it is true, if Dell wanted to they could offer the Black and Silver air-cooled model, but why should they?  when one could get the H2C for 800-1500 more in Dell Bank :smileywink:

I am happy for him/her anyway if he has been able to get Dell to commit to that.

    Peace

I know this is not normal, so that is why I posted it.  Maybe Dell is getting ready to put this on their main website.  Let me explain a couple more things.  The Dell Store on the Military Exchange site does not carry everything that you can ordered directly from Dell.  On the XPS 7XX line, they now offer:  XPS 710 Black, XPS 710 Red, XPS 720 Black, XPS 720 H2C Edition.

Although the color of the cases for the last two above "look" the same on the Exchange webpage, it is possible that the case for the XPS 720 Black is more grey than the black of the H2C.  Either way, I'm happy because I didn't really want the red.  Also, I still contend that I haven't been able to find an air-cooled XPS 720 in a Black case anywhere on the Dell website.

I guess once I receive it, I'll find out whether the sides are grey or black.

I still have no clue why I had to get a 'red' case to get the 1KW power supply.

The one think I dislike about my 710 is the red front and rear.

Dell guys, red is not cool and not special edition, it blowschunks!

At least as it applies to computers.

Wow if you get a silver case with black front and rear i'll be kinda bummed.  I really wanted the black but settled for the red.  I'm sure I'll get over it quickly though once the system arrives.
