BIOS Update

Hello all,

I updated my BIOS through the My Dell Support Windows 8 App, and since then I have had problems while booting. Since then, when restarting/powering on the computer, I see the Dell logo, but  this was happening...

And now not even that. It just goes black, not power off black, but black. I tried flashing back to BIOS A08, but to no avail.

Anybody else have these problems and know a solution? I just got the laptop today, so this is slightly depressing.

Thanks,

Brad

I believe Intel Rapid Response is what it is suppose to be set at.

    Unplug the A/C adapter.

    Remove the battery

    Unplug any external devices

Hold down the power button for 30 seconds

Plug in the A/C adapter and hit the power button and see if it will boot.

Check the setting for the hard drive in the BIOS see what the default is for the hard drive it may have change to what you had it set at. SATA, AHCI or etc.

F2 at boot gets into the BIOS setup menu.

I checked and it said my HD, which is the only HD in the computer, is the fixed HD or whatever. I now just get a black screen, and then have to hit the power button, and turn it back on again to get it to load. Any ideas...?

I have a 32 GB mSata, which is set to Intel Rapid Response or whatever, but I don't believe that should be set to AHCI, correct? The operating system, as far as I'm aware, is on the HDD, my 1 TB and the mSata is there to speed things up, correct? What else would you recommend?

In the BIOS setup menu under advanced look where if says SATA Operation and see what the options are there. What  is set to and what can you change it to. Does this notebook have an SSD drive? If so it should be set to AHCI

Sorry, I get the black screen after the initial Dell logo. Sometimes, I can hit Ctrl+Alt+Del, as opposed to powering off, and then on again, to get it to boot up, but that's no better. I really don't understand what's causing this...

Removing the Battery and A/C power and pressing the power button removes the flea power from the computer. It is a simple troubleshooting step taken when a computer does not want to boot.

I am not sure what that button on your keyboard you mentioned is for. Hopefully someone else will chime in who knows. Unfortunately I am having trouble with Dell's website and I am unable to download the owners manual for that computer.

Thanks a bunch, by the way, but I'm curious as to what this was supposed to do. And also, any ideas why the settings button (The button with the gears in the top right corner of my laptop) doesn't work? It works for my buddy who has Windows 7, but not for me... That's minimal, of course, but if you have a solution to that too, it would be much appreciated.
