Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

Try deleting the docked hardware profile and letting Windows rebuild it.  While undocked go to Start-Settings-Control Panel-System-Hardware-Hardware Profiles.  Delete the docked profile.  Shutdown, dock and reboot.  Windows should detect the Port Replicator and recreate the docked profile.

 

Thanks for the advice.  Unfortunately, it did not work.  I did get it work a fews ago (when I originally sent this post) but now it is acting up again.  What got it working the first time was to dock it and boot into Safe Mode.  At that time, traces of NIC adaptor would finally show up (meaning the wrappers which bounded to the NIC adaptor for the VPN software would show up, but not the adaptor itself).  Tried to delete the wrapper for VPN but it would not let me.  Did a rescan to redetect the NIC and it found it and we were able to get a NIC connection in normal mode.

It worked for the last few weeks, but it acted up again.  A hard reboot seemed to reset it but now it consisently doesn't get a network connection when docked (but it can when undocked).  Tried the Safe Mode fix again but it doesn't detect this time.  Tried undocking and deleting the NIC adaptor, then docking it to see if it can redetect, but it could not redetect when docked.  When undocked, it reinstalled fine.   tried deleting hardware profiles again with no luck.  Any suggestions would be appreciated. 

I am now having similar problems.  I have a C640.  Everything worked fine until they moved my office to another building.  My docking station was packed and moved with everything else.

symptoms:

1.  No connectivity through docking NIC.

2.  Get connect and activity lights on docking NIC.

3.  No recognition of docking NIC in device manager (not listed).

4.  On bootup, going to setup, BIOS does not show that laptop is docked.

5.  When I go look at profiles, it is using the docked profile.

I have tried deleting the docked profile, but to no avail.
