I have a new (replacement for original that went belly up) E6500 that will not recognize the Port Replicator.  It doesn't create a new hardware profile and there is nothing in the BIOS that indicates a docked situation.  Discussions with Gold Tech Support revealed there is a "know issue" with the E6500 and port replicator.  They were shy on details and I don't know if this applies to all port replicators and docks or just the simple port replicator I have.  Anyone with similar issues?    PS - I am still on XP, but don't know if the issue is related to that.
