My 2.5 years old Inspiron 640M laptop failed on me recently, I'm not able to boot normally into Windows 7 RC from the HDD or DVD, it keep giving all sort of BSOD but safe mode is fine. Other bootable utility like miniPE and Hiren CD worked fine. Later I discovered when running Dell Diagnostic CD that the CPU cooling fan is dead and some of the tests failed. My questions are as follows:

1) Has anyone purchase parts like CPU cooling fan (or processor) directly from Dell before?

2) Diagnostic test on the processor indicate that L1 and L2 for Multiprocessor had failed, does this meant my processor is faulty?

3) My existing processor is Core Duo 1.6GHz., what is the maximum processor speed supported by this model?

 

Hope to get some reply soon before I decide whether to scrape this laptop and get another new one. Many thanks.
