Inspiron 8200 Startup and Shutdown Problems

I'm having problems when I start up and shut down my laptop. I just reinstalled a fresh copy of Windows XP so this problem is a complete mystery to me. I installed the latest drivers off the Dell site and the computer worked fine for a while but, eventually, it hung on a black screen after restarting, forcing me to reboot. After that, I had problems shutting down. It kept giving me an error stating: "A problem has been encountered and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage etc." (I'm paraphrasing).

The only things I have on my system right now are the drivers, a Linksys router (which has no driver), an Photoshop. Could it be a problem with Photoshop?

Anyone else ever encounter problems like this? Should I go back to previous versions of the drivers??

Thanks in advance!

try doing a system restore to just before things started going wrong.
