Inspiron M5030 7 Beeps Error

My out of warranty laptop suddenly developed the 7 beeps with black screen error. Dell want £70 for an extended warranty on this faulty product and tech support are not replying to a PM sent a week ago. Anyone have any suggestion? Shou

ld I pay up to get it fixed? It seems to be a very common problem and after years of owning Dell products I feel very disappointed.

    Hi kcjb,

Yes, 7 Beeps on startup on a Inspiron M5030 means a processor failure. I’d suggest that you follow the steps mentioned below and check for issue resolution.

    1. Switch off the computer.
    2. Disconnect the AC adapter from the system.
    3. Remove the battery from the computer.
    4. Press and hold down the power button for 15 seconds.
    5. Then connect back all the peripherals and check if you are able to turn on the system.

In addition please send me a private message with the computer's service tag, Name registered during the system purchase and email address so that I can check what can be done. To send a private message, click on my name and select send private message.

Please reply me with the results.

If anyone from Dell is monitoring these posts I would really appreciate a reply. I have sent 2 private messages and heard nothing back.

Thank you for responding.  I have tried these steps many times as they have been mentioned on other posts about this issue.  Unfortunately nothing seems to work.  I am sending a private message now with the details as suggested.

Hello KCJB -  I just had the same problem on Sunday morning, read all the forum post I could find (including how to repair it myself), and then found a few that said they called dell Tech Support and asked them to repair even though it is out of warranty.  So..I tried the latter.  It worked.  I called 1-800-822-6031 (the # for out of warranty support).  I gave them my service tag # and told them I was aware that it was out of warranty, that I knew what the problem was (the chip needs to be reflowed/solder to the motherboard  since over heating causes the solder to come loose and it loses connection), and that the problem was posted over 100 times on the internet.  I advised them that I expected resolution.  Guess what? No argument - nothing.  They took my information and told me that I would receive a Fed Ex box in 3 to 5 days in which to return my laptop for repair at -0- cost.  Be sure to get a Dispatch # and Case # from them in case you have to call back.  AND you can always tell them you are going to file with the BBB (Dell seems to care about this).  They are located in Texas - here is where you file on line http://www.centraltx.bbb.org/ . It seems there are a lot of us out there calling, filing, pulling our hair out over the M5030 and still no recall.  I think it is time to involve Consumer Reports.  Good luck and I hope it works out for you too.:emotion-15:

Thanks for posting this MommaPjama as I’m sure it will help a lot of people with the same problem.  I’m in the UK so not sure if calling the US number will work for us here but I am hopeful of a response from DELL-Ravi Ch soon and will post the outcome.

I know we’re not alone from the many postings on this subject and I agree there should have been a recall   My laptop has needed a new battery and a new charger for it already – whereas my previous Dell laptop which my son uses is twice as old and never had anything go wrong with it.  The M5030 is clearly not one of Dell's best!

Clearly IDK why they have you do the step listed above... PLease follow this  as I have done today .

Dell is aware of these problems. I have the same problem with my laptop ad warranty expired last year There have been many complaints regarding this issue. The cause is due to CPU/GPU connections to motherboard. Mfg defect. You can call Dell @ 800-288-4410. Have your service tag or express code handy. It is located on bottom of laptop. They will send you a box to ship via fedex and repair it at no cost to you

M5010 got the 7 beeps of death. Same deal ...Mother Board failure. Have been thru BBB and filed a complaint with the Dell head office in Texas.

Same response, buy a new Mother Board or send in for the $300 + shipping repair. They did not care, and offered no reasonable resolve.
Had the nerve to offer 10 % off the cost of a new Mother Board. BBB closed the case because it was out of warranty by 9 months.
Having a new desk top built, and never,  ever , will I or my family purchase a Dell product.

Just had the same thing happen to my Dell Inspiron M5030...7 beeps and a dead machine.  Per the advice/experiences given my many of you on this forum, I called Dell's out-of-warranty support this morning and did not have a positive experience.  They are insisting that I will have to pay almost $400 for a repair (seriously??) and will do nothing to assist.  They claim they "never" do repair work on out-of-warranty machines, which we all know is not true.

Basically, I could not get them to stop reading their script cards, even after escalating to a supervisor named "Richard" employee 39691....who did not care about losing a loyal Dell customer, forum reports, or BBB complaints.

I am writing our company's Dell rep to see if she can help (my company happens to be a big Dell customer).  If anyone from Dell is monitoring this forum, would certainly appreciate you wading in.  If I have to spend $400...it will be on a new laptop and it will NOT be a Dell.
