N5010 powers on, doesn't load Windows, blinking cursor
Hello all, this is my first time here and really really need some help. I have an Inspiron N5010 running Windows 7, 4gb memory. Recently upon power it up, it shows the Dell symbol, makes one loud beep and then I just get a blinking cursor at the top left corner. I cannot even get into the F8 menu, only F2 and F12. I have tried booting off a Windows installation CD and it will not boot.
Thinking my hard drive was bad, I purchased a new 120gb SSD. I installed it and was able to do a full install of Windows. Once it was powered down and re-started, it did the exact same thing. I then disconnected the new hard drive multiple times and each time, it would boot and start normally. However once it shut down again, it wouldn't on its own. I've tried swapping out the memory sticks, only running one, etc.
Just tonight I also tried reseating the CMOS battery, thinking that would make a difference. Well once again, the hard drive was disconnected and it powered up. Windows installed some updates and restarting on its own multiple times without a problem. However once i shut it down and tried to power it on, same problem.
I really do not want to buy a new laptop as this still fits my needs perfect and when it's running, it's fast and works great.
PLEASE HELP!!

Hi Bluelights81,
Thanks for posting!
One beep indicates a possible BIOS failure. Unfortunately in that case, the system board would need to be replaced.
Other possiblities could be overheating by blocked fan or cooling vents, so make sure those are blown out and clean.
Regards,
Robert
