Problem connecting using wireless - cannot obtain IP address

I have a Inspiron 1501 that came with a Dell installed 1390 WLAN mini-card. I have recently re-installed XP Home (SP2) but cannot get the computer to connect to any wireless network. When this is attempted I first get the message "obtaining IP address" (for 2 or 3 minutes) and then get the message "limited or no connectivity.

The computer connects to the internet fine when using a USB cable to the modem.

The wireless card is set to obtain an IP address automatically. I have tried most solutions such as running Winsockfix, setting manual IP addresses (then connects to the modem but cannot access the internet) and have even tried an external wireless adapter to test if the internal card is faulty (even though the Dell utility tests it ok). I have tried releasing and renewing IP addresses - again, no joy!

When running ipconfig /all the display is:
