WebPC Upgrades

Recently got my hands on a Dell WebPC.  Would like to report my success in upgrading it.

Original System Config:
CPU: Pentium Celeron 466Mhz
Memory: 64 MB RAM
HD: 6GB 5400 RPM drive
OS: Windows 98

Upgraded System Config:
CPU: Pentium III 1.1 Ghz
Memory: 512 MB RAM
HD: 80 GB Barracuda 7200 RPM drive
OS: Windows XP Pro

Ran some benchmarks before and after the upgrade.  Benchmarks were in Windows XP.

CPUMark 99:
Pentium Celeron 466Mhz = 34.0
Pentium III 1.1Ghz = 85.7  (2.5x improvement)

PCMark 2002:

Original:
CPU score: 1145
Memory score: 715
HD score: 292

Upgraded:
CPU score: 2610  (2.3x improvement)
Memory score: 1117  (1.5x improvement)
HD score: 710 (2.4x improvement)

Windows XP Pro runs very well with this configuration.  Runs very stable.  Next thing I'm looking into is probably upgrading the CD-ROM to a Combo (CD-RW/DVD) Drive.  Then maybe looking into adding a Mini PCI wireless card option.  You can also look into adding bluetooth via USB and getting a Bluetooth keyboard/mouse combo.

I have the 1401FP - 14" LCD flat panel.  Also Windows XP is reporting that the graphics card now support 32MB total video ram.

The system makes for a great Web-enabled PC that can handle the web, simple games, email, MS office apps.

I will be documenting my upgrades at:  http://www.alexia-media.com/webpc

If you have any content to provide; photos, manuals, your documented upgrades, experiences with your webpc, etc.  Please email them to me: .  Thanks!

Thanks for your info, I thought with the WEB PC you were stuck with what you had.I traded mine for a 32" TV but I am still helping the guy with it. I wish I could find the mini pci combo card with the ethernet and connectors. The one I had only had the dialup modem. We ended up getting a belkin usb to ethernet adapter for his DSL but it pauses on streaming videos even with a 1200k download speed.

What ram are you using. I could not get the web PC to post with 2x256mb sticks.
