Windows Restore causes constant Reboot -- Help?
My Latitude was used by a couple of my youngers (young family members), and they were able to infest it with LARGE amounts of spyware (while being left unattended), to the point it takes 10+ mins (literally) to boot up, not to mention some viruses that I think are now resident on it.
I decided to do a system restore in safe mode, the last time being just before I installed Service Pack 2. Now it does nothing but reboot. I have tried both a normal boot and safe mode, and it will not load. Can anyone offer ideas to fix/get around this (perhaps back into system restore for an earlier point) w/o a nuke and pave solution? Please advise. Thank you.
System:
- WinXP Home
- Latitude CPxJ
- Only have CD-Rom (no floppy)
- WinXP Home CD not easily available (will an XP Pro CD Recovery work?)

- If you're unable to boot to Windows, and if a System Restore didn't work, you're probably going to be looking at a format and clean installation of Windows. In the long run, it'll more than likely take a lot less time, and you should be able to boot to the Windows XP CD without any trouble.

NO. At this point a NUKE and PAVE is about the only option you have.
Possibly a repair install might of worked but if you have a XP SP1 CD and you installed SP2 running a repair install with the SP1 CD will probably make the system even more unstable and or won't fix the reboot problem.

Thanx Ed C. I was hoping I would not have to hear that, but I figured it was inevitable. Have a Safe and Happy New Year.
