DVI or Analog

I have a NVIDIA Geforce 6100 graphics card with PCI Express.  I recently purchased an LCD monitor which has both the Analog and DVI input slots.  My problem is I only have the Analog slot on the back of my computer.

My question, Is there any way with a cable or adapter, that I can convert my signal to DVI without purchasing a new video card?  I have read if I use a VGA to DVI cable, I'm still only getting the analog signal.

Thanks for any input.

VGA is an analog signal, and results in "soft" on-screen results with LCD monitors - not as crisp as a digital signal. Going "VGA to DVI" does not make the analog VGA signal into a high quality digital signal, it just pipes the VGA signal into some pins in the DVI-I connector that are there to carry oldstyle analog signals. So VGA to DVI is a misnomer - you are as well to use VGA to VGA if the monitor has an analog VGA port.

    Take care and good luck...

    Hi,

I have read that with the new lcd's you have to be an expert to tell the difference between DVI and analog, before bying the 2405 for a short time i had a 19" lcd and bought a DVI cable for it and did not see any difference, maybe it's because i have old eyes.

Thanks for the replies.  It is as I thought, update the graphics card if I want to get the full benefit of the digital monitor.

Your comment of newer monitors that are analog are better today, and some not seeing a difference is true to some degree.  Depending on your eyes, you may or may not see a difference.  And yes, analog has come a long way in viewing improvement.

I agree with beau. I have two new 2001FP's on my XPS400. I tried DVI, and saw absolutely no difference vs. VGA.
