U2711 Screen Artifacts - seems like a typical problem
Hey all,
I purchased a U2711 a few months ago and it has started to act up and I'm pretty certain it's the monitor that is faulty. I have the same issue that is shown in this video:
Those horizontal lines appear randomly but have been lasting longer recently and don't go away. I first thought it was a faulty cable, but switched between two DVI cables and now using DisplayPort and still the same thing. Thought it then could have been the graphics card but it wasn't as I swapped out another and the problem persists.
Should I just ask Dell for a replacement? There is a 3 year warranty on this monitor right and I can only imagine that this is covered? Seems like a faulty panel to me.
yep tried that as well. same issue. my bigger worry now is that I purchased this monitor from an eBay reseller which from my research makes me think there is no warranty for it.
From doing a search on the web and from the comments at my day job (where we have quite a few U2711 monitors) this is a very common problem. I have just tried to raise a service request for my second U2711 with the same problem. Luckily, on this second one physically powering it off (NOT using the button on the front) and on again resets the flicker until the next on/off cycle. So far. The first one was out of the box.
Interesting how Dell staff seem to go "la la la can't hear you..." when this is reported and it's "that's the first time I've heard that problem Sir, have you tried changing the VGA cable / whatever ?"
Isn't it about time, Dell, you admitted there is some common flaw to a large percentage of these units and issue a notice / recall / treat customers with respect ?
You Sir are excactly right.Six months ago i bought three U2711 monitors for eyefinity gaming.(Rev A04).Some three months ago,one of these started to show artifacts in the form of random short stripes on the right side of the screen.I thought this was caused by my GPU or cable. After switching everything, and standing on my head, there was no improvement. Some eight weeks ago, the entire right side of the screen started to fail and show lines from top to bottem.Thats when i started to GENTLY TAP ON THE CASING,and the problem would go away for a day,or two,...or three.BUT NOW its here to stay!
I send it back to the shop i bought it from,(In the Netherlands),and they passed it through to Dell.
It came back yesterday,Dell couldn't find a problem whatsoever. So now starts the business of proving i'm no idiot and getting a replacement. They did indeed ask me to change the cables now. Of course i obliged. I have the sneaking suspicioun that something else might be wrong here considering the many U2711 owners with the same problems(YOUTUBE).
So yes Dell.....Isn't it about time you admitted there is some common flaw to a large percentage of these units and issue a notice/recall/treat customers with respect? Kind regards,
I bought through Dell Malaysia Employee Purchase Program (EPP). In other word, no warranty covered, no advanced exchange program and worst is cannot Re-certified!
If i die, please bury me with this stupid monitor.
Chris, it's ok to request a replacement for a faulty professional monitor but Dell will normally send you a refurbished unit with no definition of how it has been refurbished and no calibration report.
Without any definition of refurbished, one can only assume it has had its' screen cleaned and the dust blown out. If so, refurbished may get you a monitor that someone returned due to some issue they had which could result in a faulty monitor merry-go-round. Or am i wrong and refurbished means completely dismantled with the individual components/circuit boards placed on factory test rigs and fully tested before the monitor components are reassembled?
The debacle that seems the U2711 DP standby issue, flicker issue, bezzel cracking sound when the monitor gets warm issue, flicker/horizontal line issue are all real and only Dell knows how widespread they are. Not being open about the issues with these professional monitors seems to be doing the Dell brand name a huge disservice.
We all need to see some good will coming from Dell in the shape of openness with detailed information. A revision change log with fixes and enhancements for all revisions would go a long way. Anything less is shortchanging the Dell brand and driving suspicions.
