We are switching VADP backup to VDP in NW 8.2 & DD backup. As the VDP was promoted by EMC pre-sales agents it was looking very stable and simple backup solution for Virtual environment, that will allows VMware admins or  VM’s owners to take care about backup of their VMs using backup policies (Gold, Silver..) provided by Backup admins…

But when I start  to prepare simple/easy understandable VDP policies for VM admins, it looks not so simple,
furthermore it becomes to be more and more complex...

Our backup requirements is based on only 2 different retention policies
- Daily backup / 31 days retention and  Monthly / 190 days retention -

It looks not so complicated, but above environment requires at least 6 polices
- Initial Full –image
- Initial Full - disk
- Daily – image
- Daily – disk
- Monthly – image
- Monthly – disk

Each of above polices requires at least 2 VMware actions (backup & clone),…

I am just wondering whether is above configuration proper way to fulfil mentioned backup requirements?
What will happen if we get some additional vCentres, and/or some additional retention requests???
