S4100 serie switch - OS 10 - Wake on lan

Hi,

I have two S4112F-ON as core switches (VLT with VRRP). These switches are routing between some VLANs, for example VLAN 10 (Server) and VLAN 20 (Clients). Routing and DHCP (with ip helper-address on VLAN 20 interface pointing to DHCP- and the PXE-Server in VLAN 10) is working fine, except PXE and WOL. I´ve configured this many times successfully on Dell N4000 and Cisco Catalyst switches, but on S4100 series switches there is no "ip netdirbcast" or "ip directed broadcast" nor something similar commands.
With Wireshark I can see that the magic packet (UDP port 7) is going out the server but not arriving in the client VLAN.
In case of PXE the PXE-Server sends an DHCP offer after receiving the discovery packet, but then I see a "ICMP Destination unreachable (Port unreachable)" message send from one of the VRRP member addresses. The offer is not reaching the client VLAN.

Is this a missing feature of Dell OS10?
Or is there a command I don´t see?

Is there no way to implement wake-on-lan between VLANs?

WoL being a layer 2 protocol would require a WoL relay, or it can't communicate across the Vlans. One thing you can try is to put the server's NIC on each VLAN you want to reach.

    Hi,

We have the exact same Swich Series and face the same problem.

I might have to ask then why there is a ip directed-broadcast in OS9 (S4000 Series Switches) to actually accomplish such a task. Or in the N15xx Series Switches (ip netdirbcast).

This does exactly whats needed for WOL to work accross different VLANs and yet in OS10 its not there.

WOL sent to the Layer 3 Broadcast Address of a different VLAN on UDP Port 7 works just fine. No WOL relay or anything else needed.

Please implement that again in one of the next OS10 updates. Thank you.

    Hi Florian,

Thanks for the feedback. The best way to get feature changes is through your sales rep.
