1309 WLAN and E1705 problems

I have an Inspiron E1705 for about 1 yr all has been well. Then one day the WLAN stopped working. I called Dell support and was on-line with them for about 3 hours and it cost me $39.00 and the end result was that my 1309 mini card was bad. I bought a wireless thumb drive and it works great. I saw that a 1309 mini card was $26.00 so I bought one. It arrived the other day and I swapped it out and loaded the software that came with it and it is doing the same thing.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, my wife was using it one night and the next day I went to log on and nothing. I checked the internet connections and there was not a wireless connection available, I am not sure how to describe it. I went to control panel then internet connections and there was not an option there for it.
I went to device manager and network adapters and it was not there.

Could be the slot on the board that's gone bad.  You should have called Dell back as soon as you got the USB drive and it worked.  Ruled software out for the most part.  Buying a card and trying a "known good" is always tricky with Dell.

When you say the original stopped working, can you expand on that?

Well, if you replaced the card, it's unlikely that both are bad. So you look to "what it plugs into."

Which will be an expensive fix, unless it's under warranty.

That is what I figured and no the warranty expired about 2 months ago wouldn't ya know it.

    Thanks for your help.
