Another with TrueMobile 1300 Troubles

Yes, I have officially joinded the ranks of those having trouble with the TrueMobile MPCI card. I just recently purchased an Inspiron 5100 for a great price and am generally happy with the computer. However, the intermittent dropped connections were driving me nutty after just two days! Most of my work is internet based and having the connections dropped, if even for a few moments, is annoying at best.

We are using a Linksys wireless broadband router and have two other pc's with wireless access - one with a pci card and one with a usb connection..... no problems, no dropped connections... able to use WEP, have a firewall and still share files and printers.....until getting this 5100....

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the TrueMobile driver. I've updated the driver. I've updated the firmware on the router and changed the channels. Have also had to drop the WEP and set the SSID to broadcast. So finally I can stay connected for several hours without any drops... but how secure are we now?????? sheesh...

Dell, you've been known for making solid computers at value prices with good customer service. Comments across the board suggest that the customer service is slipping. And from what I've read on the boards, these troubles with the TrueMobile 1300 have been going on for over a year with no resolution whatsoever. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm...........

Thanks to everyone who's posted suggestions and comments on what's worked for them to get the connections to stay steady. Dell customer service may be slipping, but the Dell customers sure haven't lost a step!

If you have followed the post here and in the wireless forum, all I can suggest is to turn off the wireless zero service in the run block from the start menu enter " services.msc " without the quotes and at the bottom of the displyed window there will be a service called wireless zero configuration, disable this service and then let the Truemobile software driver control the card, right click on the network connection, click the properties button then on the wireless networks tab uncheck the block for use windows to configure my wireless connection. this took care of my problems for good... excellent connection all the time anywhere in the house. I'm also running a I5100 with the Truemobile 1300 b/g card mini pci. One difference is I'm using a netgear MR814v2 router. I hope this works as well for you as it did for me! let me know.

Thanks for the additional input, Mandrake. I have now disabled the zero config service. So far today, I've been online without any drops. So, fingers crossed it works. Oh, I was able to at least turn back on the firewall that comes with xp. Yeah, I know it's not great, but now that i'm not having all the drops, i will slowly try turning back on the security features one at a time and see if my connection stays steady. Sure hoping so, as i am really pleased the the computer. Anyways, thanks again!

Yesterday mid-day it seemed to steady out. That was after I'd taken all the steps posted in the first message of this thread. I've had no drops yet today either and the signal is strong. Fingers crossed, this will work. Just waiting to see what happens as I gradually increase the security measures.

Hi, I have a inspiron 5150 with the tm1300. I have also been experiencing these "Drops" I just wanted to know, when your connection drops, does the true moble icon show your still connected . Mine does, shows signal strenth is excellent! but just cant get a web page. I have downloaded the drivers off of hp's site, and when i was using wep it seemed to be fine, but i tried to put back WPA, and thats when the drops came back. If anyone else has this problem, please wright back.. O-yeah, to the person who got it working with disabling the zero feature, are you using security? if you are what is it? Thanks

    hiya Tyrton,

when the drops were happening the connection would just go and then reconnect usually in about 30-60 seconds. But I did have a few times where it would reconnect but like you, no browser pages would load. I had to reboot the computer when this occurred and then it would work again.

    Hello All,

Hi, for the WPA users, make sure Microsoft's latest WPA patch is on. It addresses connection problems etc. Also, in many cases when using WPA, the SSID must be set to 'broadcast' within the Router. Depending on the router, it should also have the lastest Firmware.

    Techsphere,

Can you kindly provide a link to the WPA patch you refer to in your reply?

    Thanks.

Whoa... I had no idea Dell's truemobile solution had so many problems. I might just go with Intel's Pro Wireless then... too bad Dell doesn't offer the b/g version of it.

Guess it depends on whom you talk to. I've been running the TM1300 on my I8200 with no problems at all using a Linksys WRT54G router. The other computers on the wireless network use Linksys cards and everything works together fine. I have DHCP enabled, SSID Broadcast disabled, WPA-TKIP enabled and it works great. I use Channel 1 because no one else seems to. The only problem I've had is that when I go to the office and connect to the wired network there, I have to disable the TM1300 because the building next door runs a Linksys b router and the TM1300 will keep trying to logon to their network. Sometimes I forget to reenable it when I come home. If that's the worst problem I have, i won't complain.
