Ethernet Connectivity (Driver-related) Problem
I can no longer connect to the internet via an Ethernet cable on my Dell laptop. It is definitely a problem with the laptop- the cord/modem setup I have works with my other PC, and when I took my laptop to Best Buy, it didnt work there, either.
After going to Device Manager, I discovered that the Ethernet driver is no longer listed. The Ethernet has been working on my laptop for 3+ months, so the driver was somehow removed. The only unusual thing that has happened lately is my laptop randomly turning off on one occasion--- either due to a power surge or a windows update restart. After that happened, the Ethernet was working intermittently, but eventually stopped working entirely.
Anyway, I tried to install the missing driver by searching the internet and using the CD that came with the computer, and in both cases I got to the end of the installation process before getting an error:
At this point, I'm not sure what else to do. I searched around for similar problems, but they seem to be for more advanced users. Popular suggestions included adjusting something with the BIOS and messing with the RAM or motherboard. If the solution is the former, someone might be able to walk me through it, but if it's the latter, I'll probably need to send it in to an expert (do all Dells come with warranties for the hardware components?)
I have a Dell Inspiron 15R SE (7520) with Windows 8. Let me know if I need to give information, and thanks in advance for helping.
