Make sure that the computers are on the same workgroup. Right-click on My Computer > properties > Computer Name tab > click on the Change button. In there, make sure that your workgroup is the same. If one computer has "workgroup", then make sure that the other computer has "workgroup" as well.
Next, go to Windows Explorer (start menu > programs > accesories > windows explorer). In there, go to Tools > Folder Options.
In Folder Options, click on the View tab. Scroll down to the bottom of the list and enable the option "Just use Simple File Sharing". Do this to both computers.
After that, you are done. To share a file, just right-click on the folder and go to Sharing/Security. From there, just select the proper options and click apply and ok. It is pretty straightforward.
For printer sharing, go to Control Panel > Printers & Faxes. Right-click on the printer that you want to share and go to Sharing. From there, just follow the on-screen instructions.
