Tried to fix the wireless, now the firewall is not working...
Alright, I need to start out by saying that this is not my computer I am asking the question about, so I cannot just up and grab it at any time; I need a sure-fire fix that I can do with one trip. I will try to provide all the information I have to make this easier:
- This is an Inspiron 5105 using Dell Wireless 1390
- Running Windows MCE 2005
- All drivers are up-to-date
- Ethernet works
- Router (US Robotics USR8054) has no WEP or any security setting enabled at this time and has other computers connected to it via-wireless
- Virus scanners say the system is clean
- Windows WZC and Dell's Wireless Utility services are both able to run without a problem
So here's problem #1:
When I try to connect to a wireless connection, everything appears to be working fine, until you press "connect." In Windows's manager the progress bar just scrolls on forever... over and over again... in Dell's manager, upon pressing "connect", a whole lot of nothing happens. I return to the first screen and still there is no connection. All the settings appear to be fine. When I try to repair the connection it says that it failed to find an IP address or something of the sort.
Girr....
So here's problem #2:
Windows firewall is all grayed out. I can't select any options in it's manager window. All the settings seem to be fine. It just won't let me select anything. Help me out, please.
